Since there is a huge debate going on out there in defense and opposition to the actual Nizam-e-Adal Regulation (NAR) being signed by NWFP Provisional Assembly with the Sufi Muhammad of Tahafuz-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) to be implemented in district Malakand, we have come to a conclusion that majority of people on both side of the argument have not even read the final document.
In order to promote a healthier and meaningful interaction of both parties and non-parties in future, here are we sharing the final draft of the NAR 2009.
It is in Adobe Acrobat reader format and can be downloaded or viewed online right away.

Our own discussion on the NAR-2009 will follow shortly in few days to come.

How it all unfolded?
On 9th April 2009, a security leak by senior Scotland Yard commander Bob Quick led to early raids on several address in Greater Manchester, Liverpool and Lancashire under the Terrorism Act. On 10th April 2009, Bob Quick steps down on accepting his mistake which led to the leak but sources claimed and even later copies of the letter supposed to be distributed to the residence of the areas concerned indicated that it only made operation go ahead just few hours early.
Same day the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown raised alarm on the highest level. Talking to media he called the need to have the raids against “a very big terrorist plot” and pushed Pakistan to do more as there was an increasing threat in his eyes from the Pakistan linked terrorism in UK.

How the Mumbai Attacks Helped Us?
My Warning: Before you start readingn this, be warned - this article has all the potential to be a piece based on conspiracy theories.
On 26th November 2008, Mumbai came under a well coordinated attack. Started by indiscriminate firing at Chhatrapati Shivaji rail station (CST) to assassination of top Anti-terrorist force members (including ATS Chief Hemant Karkare) to holing up in a Jewish center which ended in brutal killing of a young husband and wife administrators there to the final showdown in the different top hotels of the city. Let USA attack inside Balochistan
Every few days a news item appears, mentioning how many Al-Qaeda or Taliban militants have been killed in FATA. These sort of news items often include mention of some possible civilians death along, but often in a downplayed tone. This is even appended by “un-named source” in Pakistani intelligence community even, confirming the strike and the high value targets killed in it. Whereas, next few related news seems to come from the political leaders of Pakistan, reminding America that they are actually making the things worse!
This pattern becomes more interesting when we remind ourselves that Pakistan is a country where people do not trust United States of America. No matter what any one’s belief is about a common American or about the “Land of Opportunities”, they share their common mistrust on the US Establishment for leaving them over and over again in difficult circumstances, along with the general consensus amongst Muslim world that America is guilty of a Global Crusade against them. Therefore, any politician will never risk an open support for United States of America no matter what, because they need in the end public votes just in few years time. Read the rest of this entry »

Every time something goes wrong in India, it takes only few minutes before Indian Government along with its media comes bashing Pakistan on the events. Pakistan is implicated of all the terrorist activities taking place in India and yet no proves ever see the light at the surface.
One of the most convenient target of all these is Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) which now has been since renamed into Jamat-e-Dawa and claims to have abandoned their armed units. LET has been continuously rapped into being part of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
We have prepared a small table of content for a better understanding of the case:

Thai hijacked ship sunk wrongly by Indian Navy
Overzealous Indian Navy fired upon an alleged “Pirate” ship off the coast of Somalia which came out to be later a hijacked Thai fishing boat with its crew tied up inside!
Indian Navy fired upon it even though it was well made clear to all the coalition forces in the area to not approach the boat as it has been boarded by pirates and any approach can endanger their life!
All the crew member who were tied have perished! Only one tied up crew member has been found after being adrift in the Indian Ocean for over 6 days! Read the rest of this entry »

Not something to be really proud of but the usual Indian-Pakistani rivalry is strong in Cyber Space. Just few days back Indian hackers under the name of HMG (infamously called Hindu Militant Group) defaced the website of Pakistani Oil and Gas Regulatory Authrority (OGRA), to which today Pakistani hackers announced they have defaced Indian ONGC (ONGC India).
From looks of it, the attack seems like an iframe vulnerability exploitation.
At the moment as OGRA website is back in its real shape, while ONGC website is in its defaced shape, perhaps because of it being non-working day in India today.
Asian blogs and Pakistani blogs in specific were crowded with information related to the brief defacement, but one thing I surely missed in every entry was a technical insight into it, so perhaps other organizations, departments and institutes can safeguard themselves in future.

Sometime back our dear country of Pakistan was riddled with corruption. Give 10 Rupees to get a form which was supposed to be submitted for free, give 100 Rupees to move a file little quicker and perhaps give 1000 Rupees to make things fast track.
Then things started to change recently. It is now a matter of who you know, to get a certain work done. It is more like an exclusive club, returning favors to each other to get small to large scale works done without any movement of Pakistani currency. Just written notes, phone calls and simple handshakes. It is more like a moral commitment, that if you today get a work for me done, tomorrow I will do same for you. Best of all it works, it is not strictly a corruption and above all you are just doing someone a favor, right?
In the tradition of forwarded emails, I received a similar email which contained an interesting scanned letter. The letter is supposedly on a letterhead of Mrs Nargis Makhdoom, starting in the name of Allah, dated 5th November 2008, this clearly describe the designation of Mrs Makhdoom as Sister of Prime Minister and Wife of Additional Secretary National Assembly. Now that is really a news for me at least where, being sister and wife of certain personalities becomes a designation-enough to be put on letterheads! Read the rest of this entry »

Today I had a chance to go through a report titled “The Global Gender Gap Report 2008”, which has been prepared by Richard Hausmann (Harvard University), Laura D. Tyson (University of California Berkeley) and Saadia Zahidi (World Economic Forum) for the World Economic Forum.
Seeing Miss Saadia’s name mentioned in the list would have made Pakistanis feel relieved that at least a Pakistani present in the panel will make the report look pretty accurate and of course reasonable, but no we were once again wrong. We forgot that the biggest enemy of a Pakistani is a Pakistani itself. And above all, they do consider it as if a service towards country somehow. More like the hard love theory is thrown on to Pakistan every now and then, perhaps more than usual for any other nation in the world. Though I am personally not very much sure, what special we have to earn such an esteemed gift.
As per the report’s findings, Norway wins the title of the most Gender balanced country, followed closely by Finland, Sweden, Iceland and New Zealand. Hardly a surprise, Scandinavian countries are a beacon of tolerance in every regard for a very long time, whereas New Zealand though one of the newer countries in the world who even let women right to vote, yet at the moment women have so much progressed that last I read, there was a special school in New Zealand for boys to help them compete with girls and of course women in future. Whereas, on the lower end, out of total 130 countries, Pakistan took the position 127, Saudi Arabia 128, Chad 129 and last but not the least Yemen at the rock bottom 130th.
Let me put my mathematician and statistician skills on a side, and let me just elaborate few points which require pure analytical abilities and nothing else. To me it does make sense that Saudi Arabia is so conservative that it doesn’t let women in cities drive! Chad is a war torn region and understandably it would be lagging at everything from of women empowerment in health care to their empowerment in politics. Yemen is of course highly influenced by Saudi Arabia and since it has just recently over come more of its internal problems, it is still a long time away from being anywhere near the nearby UAE. But Pakistan? Why Pakistan? I am sounding like complaining because I am amazed.
Just for sake of remaining on a course of simple logical analysis, I am going to compare Pakistan at 127 with India at 113 and at some places with United States of America at 27.
There are four parts of the analysis; a. Economic Participation and Opportunity, b. Educational attainment, c. Health and Survival and finally d. the Political Empowerment.

Religious Superstar: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
Born on February 19, 1951 is a religious personality from Pakistan, who is a self-confessed Quaid-e-Inqalab (Leader of Revolution), Quaid-e-Muhterum (Leader of High regard), Shaykh ul Islam (Leaders of Islam) and Qibla Hazoor (Center of prayers).
Dr Qadri had his humble start from a mosque in Model Town, Lahore where he was an Imam. And this is where the Sharif family became his first patrons. Father of Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif, Mian Sharif held him in a very high regard for his sermons and thoughts, to which Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif obediently carried out later. Sharif family did as much as they could for the esteemed Sheikh that they provided prime property near Johar Town, Lahore to his Minhaj-ul-Quran foundation at a mere 8,000 PKR (nearly 97 USD) per 1000 Square Yards. Shahbaz Sharif was so much indebted by him that he is even said to have carried the Sheikh on his shoulders to Cave Hira on a pilgrimage.
But soon, this scenario changed when in early 1990, Dr Qadri started his own political party in the name of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). Dr Qadri now in a very stable position, started a war of words with Sharif family which in memory of the old reverence for the Moulana, stayed put of reprisals. Still, the paths were not to cross again.
PAT poised as a failed political initiative. There was no way PAT, a religious party could break through the mainstream secularist and nationalist parties like Muslim League and People’s Party. Therefore the politics was placed on hold in favor of “religious services”. Read the rest of this entry »
